Job Purpose

Working in collaboration with the Finance Shared Services Centre, the Financial Operations Manager for the business unit will be responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the business unit€™s financial performance, financial controls, fiscal discipline and finance team with specific regard to achieving business profitability and improving financial operational standards, in line with gaming regulations; legislative requirements and Sun standards


·         B. Com Honours (CTA) with articles

·         Registration as a Chartered Accountant an advantage.


·         Experience working with Accounting packages, preferably Accpac.

·         Experience in a hospitality/gaming environment an advantage.


Skills and Knowledge

Knowledge of relevant statutory legal and tax requirements.

Delivered Financial Planning & Results

·         Accurate and complete and reflects financial position of unit appropriately.

·         Understand the business strategy and budgets and align Unit objectives and targets accordingly ·

·         Develop objectives for the Unit€™s finance deliverables ·

·          Facilitate the management and achievement of Financial deliverables ·

·         Direct financial analyses and benchmark with leading financial trends and practice ·

·         Identify and investigate new financial opportunities to increase revenues or create efficiencies for the property ·

·         Collaborate with stakeholders to initiative and manage projects to improve financial results for the property ·

·          Direct risk analyses the impact on short term profit margins vs. long term sustainability ·

·         Compile and manage a risk register for the business unit according to group and unit standards ·

·         Co-ordinate internal and external financial audits ·

·         Oversee and manage the Financial reporting on projects and initiatives ·

·         Review financial risks (on Risk Register) quarterly and implement mitigating controls ·

·          Communicate with all relevant internal stakeholders at unit and Group level as well as external stakeholders ·

·          Manage and allocate people and operational resources for the department to deliver financial objectives and results ·

·          Align strategies with BBBEE transformational strategies which contribute towards targets being achieved for the business unit and group

·         Complies with GAAP and IFRS and relevant statutory and group requirements.

·         Income and expenses compared to budget.

·         Unusual variances relative to budget and previous year investigated and resolved.


Financial Governance

·         Oversee financial standards and processes at a unit level ·

·         Integrates Group and SSC standards into Unit Operations ·

·         Develop, align and update practices with new legislative and tax regulations ·

·          Implement sufficient control measures (including systems and processes) & checks within each department to mitigate any financial risk to the business. ·

·          Monitor compliance to financial procedures, costs, controls and productivities ·

·          Continuous focus on improving processes within the unit ·

·          Complete relevant statutory returns that fall outside the scope of the SSC ·

·         Complete Annual Insurance declaration accurately according to unit financial position and requirements. ·

·          Lodge liability claims and follow up to ensure resolution according to legal and policy requirements.

·         Accurate and complete and projects financial position of unit appropriately.

·         Trends e.g. occupancy levels compared against previous year€™s results, information analysed to ensure realistic forecasts.





Financial Operations Management

·         Oversee the recording and delivery of financial transactions using the services of the SSC for all financial functions on the property to ensure the financial position of the unit is accurate and up to date ·

·         Oversee the recording and delivery of the Cashiering and Casino Administration functions ·

·         Ensure that the services provided by the SSC are in line with SLAs and that the accounting is accurate and complete. ·

·         Ensure that the input required by the SSC from the business unit is in line with SLA, and is accurate and complete ·

·         Investigate unusual variances relative to budget and previous year ·  

·          Compile monthly and quarterly forecasts ·

·          Compile annual Budgets, forecasts & controls ·

·         Provide commentary on management accounts ·

·         Motivate and manage Capex requirements ·

·          Manage stock control and stock management processes ·

·         Manage Procurement processes and relationships to ensure monitoring and tracking of price movements to minimize input cost fluctuations. ·

Stakeholder relationship management

·         Act as the SME on Financial statutory legislation and tax requirements for the business unit

·         Communicate actively with Business Operations, HR and Finance to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data ·

·          Ensure that there is a strong, functioning relationship with the SSC ·

·         Communicate with Group Finance and report on revenue and financial position as required · Collaborate with the Shared Service Centre to ensure management and financial reporting for the Business unit achieves statutory requirements and timelines ·

·          Interact with Business Partners and suppliers to deliver efficient procurement standards

Year End Reporting Pack

·         Timeous, as per company reporting deadlines.

·         Accurate and complete and reflects financial position of unit appropriately.

·         Complies with applicable accounting standards e.g. IFRS, statutory requirements and Group requirements.


Tax packs

·         Timeous, as per company reporting deadlines.

·         Updated according to current legislation.

·         Packs are a true reflection of financials and are in accordance with supported documentation and tax laws.


Year End Finalization and Year End Audits

·         All year-end activities coordinated and deadlines are met as per company policies and procedures.

·         Complied with auditor SLAs.

·         Information supplied to auditors is accurate and legally compliant.

·         No matters of significant nature reported on auditors report.


Annual Financial Statements

·         Timeous, as per company reporting deadlines.

·         Accurate and complete and reflects financial position of unit appropriately.

·         Complies with IFRS and relevant statutory and Group requirements.


Standardized Financial and Compliance Policies and Procedures

·         Policies communicated to relevant parties in time to apply.

·         Current internal policies and procedures updated to accommodate new policies.

·         Work processes aligned to company policies.

·         Policies aligned to regulations e.g. Gaming board, FICA etc. and best practice.

·         Staff members are trained to implement new policies.


Managed Service Supplier Contracts

·         Commercial terms meet unit requirements at the most favorable terms without comprising quality.

·         Service providers and contractors comply with and perform according to the set criteria e.g. payment terms.

·         Invoices signed off as per unit and company policy and procedures.

·         Payments authorized as per unit and company policy and procedures.

·         Contract renewals within deadlines and as per group and unit requirements and per company policy and procedures.

Managed Financial Operations - Cashiering, Gaming, Warehouse etc.

·         Ongoing communication of information to department with relevant information.

·         Ongoing review and sanctioning of processes.

·         Group and unit standards are adhered as per FDR requirements and sound business practices.


Performance Management and HR Development

·         Staff are aware of operational and job requirements through up to date job profiles, performance contracting and standard operating procedures

·         Staff are aware of current performance (positive performance and performance discrepancies) through ongoing timeous feedback and formal performance reviews.

·         Individual needs through coaching and training are addressed to improve learning and enhance performance.
