Job Purpose

Overall and direct responsibility and accountability for the leadership of the business unit(s) team, management of critical relationships with internal and external stakeholders and delivering customers€™ experience across the resorts operations (including F&B, convention centre, golf operations, gaming and hotel operations), with the aim of maximising profitability of the business units, and creating great memories for our guests, people and stakeholders. The role will also be Sun International€™s representative within Swaziland on all interaction with the royal family and government officials in the country.


  • 4-Year Bachelors Degree (business qualification)



  • 5 years hotel management / operations management experience in a 4 or 5 star property
  • Experience in managing Business Partners and Service Level Agreements
  • Knowledge and experience in managing gaming operations, food & beverage services and standards, rooms management, golf operations and facilities management
  • Thorough understanding of legislation and protocol around managing high level and royal stakeholders within the country

Key Performance Areas:

Business Unit Strategy Development and Delivery

  • Understand the Group strategies and operationalise strategic objectives and deliverables for the business unit
  • Oversee regular SWOT Analysis, Financial Viability and Feasibility Studies on new developments and initiatives for the business unit
  • Conduct risk analyses i.t.o impact on short term profit margins vs. long term sustainability
  • Oversee the facilitation, programme management and achievement of milestones of deliverables
  • Manage investigations into operational practices and benchmark with leading trends and technology within the gaming, hospitality and leisure industry
  • Identify and investigate new opportunities to streamline, integrate and optimise processes and services for the property; and maximise profitability
  • Align practices with EE, SD and procurement transformation strategies which contribute towards BBBEE targets being achieved for the property
  • Clearly define and delegate authority and accountability at all levels
  • Manage people and non-people resources
  • Collaborate with Marketing in the development of customer acquisition and retention campaigns and growth plans in line with Customer Value Proposition and market segmentation

BU Governance & Standards

  • Oversee the development and updated standards and processes are developed, communicated and audited on a regular basis
  • Manage internal audit processes and oversee the quality assurance of procedural compliance
  • Manage the research of new technologies and alternative methods of efficiency to improve and streamline processes and products.
  • Oversee the alignment of practices with new legislative compliance around health, hygiene, safety and the environment
  • Manage that there are sufficient control measures (including systems and processes) & checks within each department to mitigate any risk to the business.
  • Conduct regular walkabouts of the business unit (including front of house and back of house areas) to ensure the business unit and grounds are aesthetically attractive and secure, and that there is compliance with various regulations and legislation
  • Drive a SHE management culture and ensure all staff are trained.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and business partners (maintenance, finance, HR, and security) to identify risk areas and address these making recommendations; changes and enhancements
  • Manage any non-compliance

Operational Management

  • Research and expand knowledge of local and international leisure, gaming and hospitality standards and products
  • Critically evaluate product offerings across the various functional areas (including gaming, hotels, F&B, conferencing, golf operations, etc.), and manage the improvement and innovation of products and offerings in line with leading practice
  • Align customer experiences and standards across functional areas and create synergy of standards throughout the unit
  • Oversee the management of operational inventory, distribution and storage of operating equipment and facility layout.
  • Develop communication plans to ensure all relevant employees understand relevant standards and procedures
  • Collaborate and act as an advisor to operational and management team with regards standards; procedures and product enhancement
  • Oversee the planning and integrated management of projects in specific functional areas and across the complex e.g. refurbishments
  • Maintain management presence on the floor
  • Monitor, manage and optimize service delivery

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Maintain and develop relationships with national community leaders and stakeholders, including relationships with the royal family and government officials, to facilitate good communication and ensure a positive network in building the brand and reputation of Sun International within the country.
  • Liaise regularly with the Company leadership around important strategies and events to identify opportunities to promote or protect the organisation€™s reputation
  • Communicates with internal stakeholders on strategy and implementation, ensuring their full understanding and buy-in for implementation
  • Liaise with Group sales, digital, PR and marketing departments to ensure synergy on objectives, campaigns and messaging to promote unit growth
  • Liaise with legal, compliance and company secretarial on the legal standing of various incidents and reach consensus on the company€™s position
  • Collaborate with Group Sustainability to promote publicity around SED and community projects
  • Participate in the sourcing and negotiating of business partner and vendor contracts for the business unit
  • Communicate unit objectives, standards and operating procedures with internal and external service providers as per SLA
  • Be Sun International€™s representative in the country on all business related issues

Budget management

Financial Management for multiple Business units including:

  • Budget

  • Oversee the development of initiatives and projects to boost revenues and control costs
